The image shows 2:20 (the real time is 9:40). At 2:20 the hour hand is at $2\times 30+20\times 0.5=70^{\circ }$ and the minute hand at $20\times 6=120^{\circ }$: the angle is $50^{\circ }$. A reflection keeps every angle, so the real clock at 9:40 also has $50^{\circ }$ between its hands. (60° forgets the hour hand's move past 2; 310° is the reflex angle.)
