1. Which of the following is a factor of 12?
Show answer
Answer: B) 4
12 = 4 x 3, so 4 divides 12 exactly. 5, 7 and 8 do not divide 12 without a remainder.
2. How many multiples of 9 are there between 1 and 100?
Show answer
Answer: B) 11
Multiples of 9 up to 100 are 9, 18, ... , 99. Since 99 = 9 x 11, there are 11 such multiples.
3. Which of these is the common multiple of 2, 3 and 4?
Show answer
Answer: C) 12
12 = 2 x 6 = 3 x 4 = 4 x 3, so 12 is divisible by 2, 3 and 4. It is their least common multiple.
4. Three friends jog around a park. One completes a round in 4 minutes, another in 6 minutes, and the third in 8 minutes.
They start together.
After how many minutes will all three be at the starting point together again?
Show answer
Answer: C) 24
We need LCM(4,6,8). 4 = 2x2, 6 = 2x3, 8 = 2x2x2. LCM = 2x2x2x3 = 24. So after 24 minutes.
5. Let N be the smallest number that is a common multiple of 3, 4 and 5.
How many factors does N have?
Show answer
Answer: A) 12
LCM(3,4,5) = 60 = 2x2x3x5. The number of factors = (2+1)(1+1)(1+1) = 3 x 2 x 2 = 12. So 60 has 12 factors.
