1. Find the perimeter of a square with side 9 cm.

P = 4 × s = 4 × 9 = 36 cm.
2. A square and a rectangle have the same perimeter of 24 cm. The rectangle is 8 cm by 4 cm. Find the side of the square.

Square side = perimeter ÷ 4 = 24 ÷ 4 = 6 cm. (Check: the rectangle's perimeter = 2(8 + 4) = 24 cm, so the perimeters match.)
3. A rectangular plot is 90 m long and 60 m wide. A path of grass needs seed for the whole plot. Find the area to be seeded in m².

Area = l × b = 90 × 60 = 5400 m².
4. A storeroom floor is L-shaped. It divides neatly into a rectangle 8 m by 5 m and a rectangle 6 m by 3 m, with no overlap. How much floor has to be tiled?

Work out each rectangle’s area and add: (8 × 5) + (6 × 3) = 40 + 18 = 58 m². 22 m² comes from adding the four measurements 8 + 5 + 6 + 3, which is a perimeter-style move on an area question. 40 m² counts only the bigger part of the L.
5. A wall 9 m long and 4 m high has one window measuring 2 m by 1 m. The wall is to be painted everywhere except the window, at ₹25 per square metre. What is the cost of the painting?

Wall area = 9 × 4 = 36 m². Window area = 2 × 1 = 2 m². Painted area = 36 − 2 = 34 m², so the cost = 34 × 25 = ₹850. ₹900 forgets to leave the window out (36 × 25). ₹650 uses the wall’s perimeter, 26 m, with a per-square-metre rate, mixing up boundary with surface.
